• Sonam is an avid reader, and as a child she was very fond of reading Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and Enid Blyton. Even today she loves reading and likes to read Indian authors too.
• She studied theatre and arts in the United World College of South East Asia, Singapore and had also attended a course in economics and political science at the University of East London.
• Rani Mukherjee had come to meet her in Singapore, and then Sonam had expresses her desire to work as an assistant director on Rani’s upcoming film at that time. Eventually, Sonam started her foray in Bollywood as an Assistant Director to Sanjay LeelaBhansali on the film Black.
• Sanjay LeelaBhansali had said, that she looked like an Ajanta Painting and that he would like to cast her as the female lead in his film.
• According to Sonam herself, Bhansali tried to convince her for over a year, and then she said yes to star in his film, Saawariya. But she was asked to lose weight as she was overweight. She lost 35kgs in two years for the film.
• Sonam had been overweight since her teenage years, and even had all the weight related issues, such as bad skin, hair on her face, and had even developed polycystic ovarian disease. She used to blame her father for her hair issues, but her mother told her that it was because of all the hormonal imbalances that she had that problem.
